Quality-wise, this is every bit as good as some of the $100+ transmitters I've tried, so no contest there. Most of what seems to drive the price up on other transmitters is the auto-tuning feature a lot of newer devices use, but in VT especially, i find those don't work well with the shifting signals in mountainous terrain. I like this device with manual controls a lot better. I love it when simpler is better.

The new car tune works great on most stations, but it isn't as good quality as i'd like. Certainly, it's the best quality you're going to get from an FM receiver, but i'd say the best sound is from a cassette adapter or an aux. jack.

Since any FM transmitter uses radio signals, there may always be some static, but some are definitely better than others. The CAR Tune is one of the best--I am extremely pleased with it! I can put my iPod in my cup holder because the cord is long enough from the transmitter to the iPod. The display on the transmitter lights up at night so it's not tough to spot, and most of all, the quality is amazing! I had tried a different transmitter a while back that was around the $50 mark and didn't sound half as good as the CAR Tune (plus the Car Tune comes with a one year warranty through Small Dog so you don't have to go through a 3rd Party source to replace it if it fails). Well worth the money!

My last Car Tune lasted about 3 years, which is pretty great if you ask me. The new one doesn't have the springy-type cord, which I like, and it also seems to emit a stronger signal. I'd only used the old one for podcasts, but I'm using this one for music and the sound is totally acceptable. This is an excellent, simple product at a more-than-fair price.
