Apple Remote with iPod and iPhone:
If you connect your iPod to a home stereo, powered speakers, or TV set, the Apple Remote lets you experience your songs, slideshows, and more from across the room. Plug your iPod into the Universal Dock and choose a playlist, slideshow, or video. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy. Ready to move on to the next song? No need to get up. Just press the Next button on the Apple Remote. Getting a call on your iPhone? Press Pause, then pick up where you left off.
Apple Remote with Mac:
The Apple Remote gives you total command of your music, photos, videos, and DVDs from anywhere in the room. It works with Front Row— a menu-based, full-screen interface —to make accessing the digital content on your Mac as simple as navigating your iPod. When you press the Menu button, your desktop fades and the sleek Front Row interface takes its place to give you control over your music in iTunes, your photos in iPhoto, the videos in your Movies folder, and your DVDs. Turn up the volume. Shuffle. Skip to the next chapter on your DVD. Play a slideshow, a home movie you made in iMovie, even a movie trailer.

This remote is awesome. Its a definite improvement over the polycarbonate plastic version introduced back in 2006. I found it to be a nice size, fitting well in the hand and while adding one more button, the contours aid in tactile control. It works for any Intel Mac with an infrared sensor (~2005 and on) and matches the new aluminum look of the Mac lineup. Access to the watch-size battery is also improved.
The new Apple Remote is fantastic. I was somewhat skeptical of dropping $20 on a new remote, especially since there are three of the previous generation white ones scattered about my house. It made sense to update the design to fit their sleek aluminum aesthetic, but the remote is also much more functional. It has a much better in-hand feel, the buttons are pleasantly recessed into the frame and they've added a dedicated play/pause button. If you have a Mac made in the last 4-5 years chances are this remote will work with your machine and makes a great accessory.
How does Apple always do this?! They introduce something which seems like the height of design (the old plastic remote) and then they somehow come up with a new version that makes the old one look like trash! I love this new remote. It was only a matter of time before I replaced my old plastic one.
I needed a replacement remote for my Apple TV. This remote compared to the original is a lot more pleasing to the eye! And its bigger that the older polycarbonate remote, which I could never seem to find.
