I bought a slightly less expensive SuperDrive from a competitor for my wife's Mac mini. It seemed like a good deal at the time, but my wife complained constantly about how difficult it was to load and how noisy it was in operation, and how hot it became when playing a movie DVD. I bought her this Apple SuperDrive and it was an obviously superior product right out of the box. A bit heavier, much stronger case, virtually silent in operation, much better heat distribution and although there is no rational explanation for it — both of us have commented the DVD images seem much clearer and sharper. All of this for less than $10 more than we paid for the old unit.

Apple quality at only a tittle more than the cheaper competition.

Purchased an LG Electronics GP65NB60 DVD Burner Drive with M-DISC capability that was crappy compared to the rest of my Apple system. I returned the drive and ordered the Apple drive that arrived faster than the estimated arrival time. Opened the box, connected the cord to my USB port and it fired right up and did what a SuperDrive is supposed to do. Also very satisfied with the Apple design and quality of the case and appearance.
